Data tells you WHAT is happening. People tell you WHY.

We spend hours staring at dashboards tracking conversion rates and deal velocity. But behind every data point on that screen is a human being.

We spend hours staring at B2B sales dashboards, tracking conversion rates by region, analyzing deal velocity, and measuring quarterly growth metrics. It's easy to get lost in the lines, bars, and percentages.

But behind every single data point on that screen is a human being.

Leadership author Simon Sinek put it well: if you don't understand people, you don't understand business.

The two people behind every metric

When we look at our pipelines, we aren't just looking at accounts; we are looking at customers who have real challenges, pressures, and goals they want to achieve, and employees and teammates who put in the effort, creativity, and collaboration to move those metrics forward.

Data guides strategy, people drive execution

Data is an incredible tool to guide our strategy, but empathy, communication, and relationships are what actually drive execution. If you want to optimize your conversion rates, start by optimizing how you listen to and support the people behind them.

The takeaway

Numbers tell you what happened. Conversations tell you why. The leaders who balance both are the ones who turn dashboards into durable growth.
